Once upon a time in Cyberland… Cyber Cinderella Prepped to go to the Ball.

10:00 AM

Boy, this was like getting ready for the prom! I had my appointment with the hairstylists first. The excuse worked, the stylists did my hair like Kate Winslow's dinner scene hair-do. Instead of jewelry in my hair, we used one of those flexible combs with simulated pearls around my hair. It turned out beautifully.

Before

After

12:30 PM I ran out to Frederick's of Hollywood to make my second purchase, a strapless bra. I just couldn't bear having to wear a corset and I really didn't need one, the dress fit fine. So, now I had spent $44.00 total for the event. My goal was to spend as little as possible.

1:00 PM I ran home to get a couple of things. I checked my mail and fell in my driveway. I cut my knee up and was in need of some stitches. It was 1:30 and I had a 2:00 appointment for my makeup. Well...I stopped the bleeding and called my doctor. She said that if I stopped the bleeding and bandaged it up, I could wait until tomorrow morning to be stitched.

It's not everyday you get to go to a gala and wear a $10,000 gown. So...my neighbor bandaged my knee up, and I was off to have my makeup done.

5:00 PM I got back home and we had to start putting everything on me. We had to be at Olan Mills for a 6:30 appointment for portraits.

Don't leave yet…the evening of the Gala is ahead. I just want to give some credit to some wonderful people before you go to the event.

Noteworthy…

None of photographs turned out from the day of the gala. I asked the owner of the mansion and Diane Barr, designer of the gown, if we could do a photo shoot recreating the event. I told them of the overwhelming response to this story and they both agreed to recreate the event. This was so you could see as well as read this story. On August 13th we re-created the whole event.

Many thanks to the following people who aided with the reshoot:

Jennie Chancey, Creative Director (Owner, Sense and Sensibility)

Cora, a 16 year old wiz with period hairstyles.

Dale Garvey, photographer, who is great with closeups.

Carlos A. Perez, photographer, who drove over 200 miles to do this.
